{"id":3452,"date":"2018-08-15T13:16:36","date_gmt":"2018-08-15T13:16:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wisdominallthings.com\/?p=3452"},"modified":"2022-01-31T15:07:24","modified_gmt":"2022-01-31T15:07:24","slug":"making-a-difference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wisdominallthings.com\/staging\/3400\/making-a-difference\/","title":{"rendered":"How Should We Understand &#8220;Making an Impact&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe style=\"border: none;\" title=\"How Should We Understand: Making an Impact\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podbean.com\/media\/player\/8pmti-ea5324?from=pb6admin&amp;download=1&amp;version=1&amp;auto=0&amp;share=1&amp;download=1&amp;rtl=0&amp;fonts=Helvetica&amp;skin=1&amp;pfauth=&amp;btn-skin=107\" width=\"300\" height=\"122\" scrolling=\"no\" data-name=\"pb-iframe-player\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<strong>EXPOSE\u00a0 | \u00a0You = Unique Influence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The unique combination of your gifts, talents, experiences and opportunities equips you to lead and influence those around you unlike anyone else.&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; Jenni Catron<\/p>\n<p><strong>EXPLORE\u00a0 |\u00a0 Drip.\u00a0 Ripple.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tony Robbins was recently in Chicago. \u00a0Over 3 1\/2 days, he promised to help you learn how to \u201cunleash the power within.\u201d\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t go, but just the phrase alone I think best describes how most articles and presentations communicate what it is to \u201cmake an impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is this idea that either the earth, or the sky&#8211;or both, opens up and leaves an indelible mark on many.\u00a0 In other words, it can&#8217;t be considered an impact unless it reverberates across the internet, you publish a book, and then fill a year&#8217;s worth of speaking engagements.<\/p>\n<p>While Tony can be quite persuasive and inspiring, I have come to believe that making an impact is more in line with Jenni&#8217;s quote above.\u00a0 In fact, if it&#8217;s true, then it reveals a pretty straightforward equation: Are you unique? Yes.\u00a0 Are there people around you? Yes.\u00a0 A week long hype fest to unleash something?\u00a0 Not required.<\/p>\n<p>John Maxwell seems to support this line of thinking in his article, <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.johnmaxwell.com\/blog\/7-factors-that-influence-influence\">7 Factors that Influence Influence<\/a>.\u00a0 Making an impact is more aptly described as influence, and is made possible by our carrying forward and exercising an accumulation of development and wisdom from our experiences in close proximity to others.<\/p>\n<p>Does a drip worry about the size ripple it will make?\u00a0 I&#8217;m pretty sure that &#8220;making an impact&#8221; doesn&#8217;t even cross its little mind.\u00a0 It&#8217;s something that happens naturally. What matters most is that it dripped.\u00a0 And if it desires to continue to have a rippling effect, it just needs to keep dripping.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EXECUTE\u00a0 | Stop Trippin&#8217;, and Start Drippin&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Learn how to unleash the drip within you.&#8221;\u00a0 I know, not quite the appeal of a Tony Robbins conference.\u00a0 But there are a few things that might help you see your way through to, and remained unhindered in, sharing your life, wisdom, or lessons learned with those around you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Face Fear.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>We face our greatest fear at the threshold of our greatest opportunity to make an impact.<\/em>&#8221; &#8211; Jenni Catron<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, the fear is most overwhelming because the opportunity is so ripe for you &#8220;to drip.&#8221;\u00a0 Those around you are so needing your &#8220;unique combination.&#8221;\u00a0 Remember, the size of the ripple doesn&#8217;t matter.\u00a0 What matters is that you share your life, speak the works, reach out, step up, lend a hand, or whatever the situation calls for.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compare Not.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cComparison twists what should be unique about us into something that we are either grossly dissatisfied with or disproportionately proud of.\u201d <\/em>&#8211; Jenni Catron<\/p>\n<p>Comparing ourselves to others could keep us from expressing ourselves precisely the way someone might need to see us.\u00a0 In a sense, we&#8217;re letting someone else interfere with the weight and timing of &#8220;our drip.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stay Healthy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pat Lencioni is the founder of The Table Group, and his company provides leadership and management consultation.\u00a0 He is big into creating healthy teams, and subscribes to the idea that &#8220;the healthier a leader is, the healthier the team will be.&#8221;\u00a0 This also plays out in our lives as individuals.\u00a0 We can easily undermine the effect our ripple will have when we&#8217;re not at our best.\u00a0 Take care of yourself so you can take care of those around you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rock What You Got.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You are unique.\u00a0 You need to be you.\u00a0 Others need you to be you.\u00a0 It&#8217;s when we try to rock what we don&#8217;t have, or wish we did, that the ripple gets all messed up&#8211;or doesn&#8217;t happen at all.\u00a0 Accepting who we are can also help with timing.\u00a0 I know I find myself waiting for &#8220;things to change&#8221;
