This is driven by the psychological relief of finishing a goal, a concept known as “cognitive closure”.  It does feel good to check things off our list.  So, one application of this would be to consider how the mental burden of unfinished tasks might be affecting your life.

Both prayers are valid, and God may respond in different ways.  But whether God lightens your load or strengthens your back, both responses are meant to draw you closer to Him.  This is the outcome of each: a deeper dependence on Him and greater spiritual growth.
